Course Description/Overview
COURSE OVERVIEW:
This course introduces participants to ArcGIS Pro, focusing on the skills needed by an assessor’s office. In this course, you will learn how to import an Arcmap .mxd file into ArcGIS Pro and get comfortable with the new Pro interface, including how to turn on labels, change colors, and open the attribute table. You will then learn how to use the editing tools in ArcGIS Pro to create, split, and reshape parcels, lots, and building footprints. At the completion of this course, you will have a strong foundation in the basic use of ArcGIS Pro for common land management workflows.
AUDIENCE:
Assessors’ office staff who maintain land data in ArcMap and are ready to migrate to ArcGIS Pro.
TOPICS COVERED:
• ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro – An overview of the ArcGIS Pro software and translating ArcMap documents into ArcGIS Pro projects, as well as how to create a new Pro project (What is the Difference Between ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro?; Starting a Project; Importing a Map Document)
• ArcGIS Pro Basics – Getting familiar with the ArcGIS Pro interface, including starting a new project, navigating a map, and working with the ribbons, panes, and views (Parts of the Interface; Adding a Map to the Project; Map Navigation Tools)
• The Attributes Behind the Map – Using the table of data behind the map to find what you are looking for (Looking at the Data for Parcels and Lots)
• Working with Layers – Understanding the Feature Layer, choosing colors, turning on labels, and understanding the Catalog pane to get to the data behind the maps (Configuring the Layers; Changing the Colors; Labeling Features)
•Understanding GIS Data – Learning what types of data can be used in a Pro project and how to get different types of data onto the map (GIS Data Types; Understanding the ArcGIS Pro Project; Finding and Adding Data to a Map)
• Creating GIS Data – Creating GIS data files when you are not able to find what you need (GIS Data Types and File Creation)
• Bringing in Parcel Maps and Subdivision Plats – Taking paper maps and placing them into correct spatial locations (Georeferencing an Image)
• Drawing and Editing Features – Editing in ArcGIS Pro: drawing lots, parcels, and building footprints, and editing attributes (Getting Started with Editing; Creating and Modifying Features; Editing Attributes; The Editing Environment)
• Asking Questions of Your Data– Selecting features on the map by running SQL queries on the data tables, as well as by looking at spatial relationships of the features (Interactive Selection; Select By Attribute; Select By Location)
• Keeping Intersections and Boundaries Clean with Map Topology – Employing some data QC techniques by ensuring that the boundaries and intersections between features that touch are accurate. (What Is Map Topology?; Using Map Topology Tools)
• Using Geodatabase Topology to Find and Fix Errors in Your Data – Setting geometry rules on your datasets to maintain quality and easily locate and fix errors (Creating Geodatabase Topology; Finding and Correcting Topology Errors).
